CARWRECK.REPORT / FIX ERRORS

Fixing errors in your report

Some mistakes are easy to fix. Others need a different strategy.

Type of errorWhat you can usually do
Wrong name, plate, VIN, insurance or addressAsk the agency to correct it, with proof (license, registration, insurance card)
Missing witness or detailAsk whether the officer will add a supplement
You disagree with the officer’s opinion of faultRarely changed. Build the evidence for the insurer instead

Agency practices vary.

How to ask

  1. Call or visit the agency’s records unit and ask how corrections are handled.
  2. Ask for the investigating officer by name and badge number.
  3. Put your request in writing, politely, with supporting documents.
  4. Keep a copy of everything you send.

If the officer won’t change it

That’s common. The report is one piece of evidence. Photos, video, witnesses, vehicle damage and expert analysis can tell a more complete story.
